Warehouse expansion opens up job opportunities

A Leicester-based food distribution company has moved operations to a new £12m facility in the suburb of Braunstone Frith.

A total of 380 staff members from Samworth Brothers Group have already relocated to the Oak Meadow site, and with the capacity to increase the workforce to 500, the new location promises plenty of room for expansion.

The company is known for making Dickinson and Morris pork pies and Ginsters pasties. It also specialises in pre-made sandwiches and salad mixes for the supermarket trade.

Supply chain managing director of Samworth Brothers Group, Paul Bennell, told the Leicester Mercury:

“It is so much bigger and better and represents a significant investment for the business. It extends our capacity locally and will ensure all of our Leicester and Melton Mowbray businesses are able to grow further with these distribution services in place.”

Using the latest warehouse systems, from bespoke picking trolleys and packing stations, to the most up to date technology in blast chillers and an onsite vehicle maintenance unit, the new warehouse also has a restaurant and saff gym, and the capacity for 160 office staff. It is around three times bigger than the old site, with 49 vehicle docking stations as opposed to the 19 it had before.

The Samworth Brothers Group is a family-owned business spread across Leicester, Bristol, and Cornwall, and includes names such as Soreen and Walker & Son under its umbrella. The group employs more than 8,000 people, with the majority living and working in Leicestershire.
