Packing stations are areas where workers pack products ready for shipping. A key component of any such station is the packing table, as an efficient packing table makes the operation quicker and more productive.
We produce a variety of packing tables here at Steely Products. This guide will help you choose which is the best one for your organization.
A basic table
You could use a packing table that is simply a table without shelves or other features. This is fine for a business that does not process many orders, but is unsuitable for processing large volumes each day.
An efficient packing table needs to hold packing supplies and boxes. If order monitoring is done with a laptop or tablet, a stand is helpful.
One-shelf
A one-shelf table is still a basic table, but has a raised shelf that can hold packing materials and equipment, including tape dispensers. The ideal packing table makes it easy to access equipment and packaging materials without having to stretch or twist the body.
A packing bench with extra storage space
Most businesses that process many orders each day need a packing table or bench that has extra features. A raised shelf with dividers holds different size boxes and padded envelopes
A mid-height shelf is beneficial to store tape and tools. A computer monitor can be mounted on the table at a suitable height for comfortable viewing. A keyboard can rest loose on the surface, or for extra packing space, a keyboard can be mounted at an angle next to the monitor. Alternately, a separate computer bench can be located near the packing table, within easy reach of the employees. An optional lower shelf beneath the table-top is suitable for a printer and rubbish bin.
A height adjustable table will be useful if several different workers will be using it, allowing for some to be taller or shorter than average.
How wide?
A packing table obviously needs to be wide enough for the packer to comfortably work with it. If a weighing machine is required, the table needs to be wider for it. We manufacture tables in custom sizes so that a packing table can be the exact fit for the available space.
How many packing tables?
Each packer requires their own packing table. It is recommended that a separate table be used for processing returns.
If the business is expected to grow, this needs to be planned for. The packing station area may have to expand. It can be helpful to have extra packing tables available, so that the business can quickly adapt to process increased orders.
