Steely Products does not make a one-size-fits-all, universal picking trolley suitable for every warehouse. End users’ needs vary, and so we specialise in matching the right trolley to the exact requirements of individual users.
There are many factors that affect the best type of picking trolley to use. In the following sections, we will explore these different factors:
Number of items that are picked
For small items, it is more efficient to pick several in a single picking journey. A pigeonhole picking trolley is ideal to pick many items in one picking run. A five-tier five basket trolley is also great for carrying many items.
Tote boxes are useful for separating picked items by orders. Trolleys can be made that hold up to 12 tote boxes.
Large boxes will need a box trolley. Heavy furniture, such as sofas and beds, require specialised trolleys to move them safely.
Aisle size
Most Steely Products trolleys are suitable for normal width aisles, but in locations with narrow aisles, a narrow aisle picking trolley is needed. When space is limited, these enable operators to easily pass by each other.
In offices with confined spaces, compact tote box trolleys carry paperwork and stationery in between desks and workstations.
Added components
A picking trolley can be designed to do more than just carry items. Pickers often have tablets or paperwork that contains order information. A tablet holder or clipboard attached to the trolley frees up their hands to lift goods to and from the trolley.
For items stored at heights, trolleys with steps make it easier to reach inventory without needing to stretch. Dividers can also be added to trolleys to keep items separated and organised.
Choose steel over plastic
At Steely Products, all of our trolleys are made from strong, lightweight steel. The inexpensive purchase price of plastic trolleys may be attractive, but plastic is not strong. As a result, plastic trolleys will need to be replaced more often than steel ones, making them a more expensive purchase in the long run.
Bespoke trolleys
Here at Steely Products, we recognise that end-users’ requirements vary widely, which is why we make a wide range of trolleys. Even with our extensive range, some clients cannot find trolleys that are ideal for their operation, and so we offer a bespoke design service. We visit workplaces to observe and analyse what items need picking and how to make picking accurate and quick using bespoke trolleys. Prototype trolleys are designed and manufactured at our workshop ready for testing.
During the prototype stage, the trolleys are subject to rigorous testing. Design modifications may be needed, after which there is a production run of the bespoke trolleys. All our equipment is made by our skilled metalworkers. No expensive tooling is required, which makes it economical to make any required quantity of trolleys.
