Phase Eight owners buy large fashion retailer

The Foschini Group (TFG), the owner of Phase Eight, Hobbs and Whistles has purchased White Stuff.

White Stuff sells men’s and women’s fashion and accessories from 113 stores, 46 concessions and online. This acquisition is part of TFG’s plans to expand by adding new brands to its portfolio of 34 fashion and lifestyle brands. TDG acquired Phase Eight in 2015 followed by the acquisition of the Hobbs and Whistles brands.

White Stuff has had a solid financial performance over the last few years, with record revenue of £154.8 million in 2024 and earnings before interest, taxes and amortisation of £8.6 million.

White Stuff CEO Jo Jenkins said of the purchase:

“This is a very exciting moment for White Stuff and represents the natural next step for our business. It builds on the hard work and success the brand has achieved in recent years.”

He commented that TDG is the ideal owner to expand the business.

Justin Hampshire, CEO of TFG London welcomed White Stuff to TDG and said that the acquisition will diversify and strengthen the group’s fashion portfolio.

“We are excited to be the next custodian of this important British brand.”

Many of White Stuff’s senior management and staff are expected to remain, and no significant shop closures are forecast. The new owners plan to grow White Stuff as they have done with their Phase Eight, Whistles and Hobbs divisions.

The heavy-duty garment rails in its large warehouses are filled with clothing sold in several sales channels, including physical retail stores, online and wholesale.
