Fashion brand Joules expands after administration

27/09/2026 by Fenton Richardson

Joules, the UK fashion and homeware retailer, has announced expansion plans.

In November 2022, Joules collapsed and went into administration. Many of its 122 high street stores closed, reducing the total number to 53. Next then bought a 74% stake in the company, with its founder, Tom Joule, retaining a 26% share. Since then, Joules has continued trading through its remaining stores, its website and the Next online platform.

Joules has stated that it is expanding its operations by opening four new stores over the next few months in Northallerton, Harrogate, Basingstoke and Gretna, Scotland. Three will open in 2026 and the other in 2027. This marks the first time Joules has expanded since entering administration. The growth follows a period of significant restructuring, including the integration of Joules’ operations into Next’s Total Platform infrastructure to support online and offline sales.

Joules is forecast to report its first profit since 2022. More Joules stores are expected to open after 2027, but no details have been announced.

Joules is one of several UK fashion retail brands that have continued trading after entering administration. Some collapsed brands have used franchise agreements as a way to continue trading; others, such as Joules, have been bought by larger companies and subsequently expanded.

Many fashion brands have recently grown both online and through their physical stores. Large warehouses equipped with heavy-duty garment rails hold a wide variety of items and supply fashion stores and customers with the latest clothing and homeware products.
