Forklift manufacturer, Combilift, has opened a new state of the art facility in Monaghan, Ireland at a cost of €50 million. This coincides with the company’s 20th anniversary, and has created 230 new jobs since plans were first made three years ago in 2015, with a further 200 planned over the next three years. The expansion is hoped to double production by
2023.
The company was founded by Martin McVicar and Robert Moffat in 1998, with the development of a multidirectional all-wheel drive forklift. The range has since grown to include pedestrian units, a number of heavy load handling units and warehouse space saving initiatives. This allows areas such as sofa display racks to be accessed easily and safely.
The new facility was opened by Irish Prime Minister, An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar TD, who said:
“Combilift is an incredible homegrown Monaghan success story. When the company was founded 20 years ago, it had three employees, a brilliant concept and the ambition to make it a reality.”
The new facility, which has been built on a 100-acre site, allows for further expansion as and when required. The building has an 11 acre footprint, of which 23 percent has skylights allowing staff to work in natural light instead artificial lighting, there are also solar panels generating 185 kilowatts of energy, a biomass plant which is fuelled by recycled pallets for heating, and a system to collect 110,000 litres of rainwater which is used for jet washing as well as staff bathroom facilities.
