Gamification technology enhances warehouse worker efficiency

14/11/2022 by Derek

Gamification is a way to maximise employee engagement in the warehouse to increase productivity.

Warehouse owners are facing an increasing number of pressures, including staff shortages, difficulties retaining staff increasing energy costs and online order customers expecting speedy deliveries. One way to make warehouses more efficient is to use automated machinery and robots, but these are expensive and beyond the budget of many organisations.

There are at least three key areas that can be improved to increase warehouse productivity. Warehouse management system software (WMS) can improve order picking speed and accuracy. A warehouse equipment manufacturer supplies quality, reliable and efficient manual handling and storage equipment that improves warehouse organisation. The warehouse needs a well-trained and motivated workforce, and this is where gamification helps.

Gamification is part of warehouse management software, presenting a familiar app-like interface similar to those on smartphones or tablets. The interface combines human psychology with technology, creating a game-like experience that rewards worker success with virtual trophies or points. This increases worker motivation and productivity.

Cloud based WMS systems feature modern interfaces that users who own smartphones or tablets find easy to use. They must not be too complicated or difficult to learn. The WMS interface can also be used as a training tool for new hires and should reduce training costs.

The interface also provides information for supervisors to monitor performance and solve issues or hold ups.

To meet demands and remain competitive, a modern warehouse needs greater efficiency and adaptability using tools that include gamification technology.
