A £225 million development has been earmarked for Hinckley in Leicestershire. The industrial park will be home to distribution centres and warehousing, creating around 2,400 local job opportunities. Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council granted planning permission to IM Properties, a Midlands-based company who will develop the 82-acre site.
DPD, the parcel courier firm, is expected to establish a
super-hub on around 39 acres, with an investment of approximately £150 million. The super-hub will create at least 750 new jobs, including warehouse operatives, office staff and drivers. When fully operational, and fitted with the best a storage rack manufacturer can supply, the new facility will be capable of handling about 71,000 packages an hour. It is the fifth hub to be established in the UK by the company. A spokesman for DPD, CEO Dwain McDonald said:
“We are continuing to experience strong growth in demand for our services, which is why we are announcing another massive hub project less than three years after we opened Hub 4.”
The new Park is expected to contribute at least £20 million to the local economy during construction, as around 280 jobs for full time construction workers will be available. Once up and running, the Park should add a further £47 million to the economy each year, with opportunities across light industry, manufacturing and logistics generating further jobs. The new facilities will be built to the highest spec, with advice from a reputable warehouse equipment manufacturer ensuring that operations run as smoothly as possible.
