AI-powered scheduling software increases staff retention

Legion Technologies in California has developed a workforce management platform that gives staff more flexibility in scheduling. The company claims that its software can improve staff retention.
Research by Legion Technologies found that warehouse employees want more control over their work schedules. Managers want technology that makes it easier to organise work schedules. Creating schedules that balance the needs of both employers and their workers is difficult and time-consuming.
Legion says that staff shortages and high staff turnover are major challenges. Flexible work scheduling that takes into account how many hours staff want to work, and when they want to work them, improves staff morale, making them less likely to leave.
It is not always possible to provide the working hours staff want in a busy warehouse, especially during peak periods such as Christmas. It can take managers a long time to create work schedules. The Legion Technologies system, powered by artificial intelligence (AI), is being used to help fulfil workers’ wishes for working hours, whilst freeing up more time for the managers who organise shifts.
Research by Legion discovered that nearly half (49%) of managers surveyed fill open shifts by contacting workers individually, either by text or by phone. AI technology can automatically contact workers to arrange their working hours.
Over a third of managers (39%) say that the time saved by not having to organise staff working hours could be spent on training and developing teams. For instance, more courses could be offered on the safe operation of manual handling equipment such as storage trolleys, picking trolleys and packing tables.
