Online retail giant Amazon has readied its fulfilment centres for the run up to Christmas.
As of last Friday, and continuing until this Sunday (November 26), the Black Friday shopping drive will see 85 items dispatched every second from one of Amazon’s massive facilities, with shoppers continuing right into December looking to bag a bargain if they can.
The Peterborough Fulfilment Centre is in full swing as pickers and packers gear up for the festive season. The warehouse is as big as seven football pitches and is one of 16 UK fulfilment centres. With row upon row of packing stations and sortation tables, the centre will be nonstop until Christmas Eve.
Investing £6.4bn since 2010 in the UK alone, Amazon has created 3,500 permanent new jobs in 2017. It plans to increase the size of its network in response to customer demand, offering greater selection and enabling smaller and medium sized enterprises to scale their business on the Amazon Marketplace.
UK Country Manager for Amazon.co.uk., Doug Gurr, explains:
“Customers tell us they love getting extra low prices so they can save on their Christmas shopping. This year we have hundreds of small businesses from our Marketplace offering great deals on their unique and creative products, making it even easier to find perfect gifts with our Black Friday sales.”
Black Friday shoppers also enjoyed thousands of ‘Lightening Deals’ and ‘Deals of the Day’, which are set to continue after the Black Friday sale, with products offered at discount prices for a limited period of time.
