Fashion brand Karen Millen has launched Karen Millen Rotates, a new garment rental platform in partnership with recommerce platform My Wardrobe HQ. This is part of the brand’s pledge to support the circular economy.
Karen Millen clothing is sold online and through its shops. Some customers buy Karen Millen dresses for special occasions but only wear them a few times before disposing of them. Though some give their used clothes to charity shops, many are thrown away and become textile waste. Since these high-end garments are beyond the budget of some who love the brand’s designs, Karen Millen Rotates aims to tackle the issue of waste while making its items more widely affordable.
Karen Millen designer garments are checked for authenticity and stored on heavy duty garment rails. Customers then browse the clothes online and the chosen garments are dispatched to them. After wearing the garments, the customer sends them back without having to clean them. If they love the garment, there is an option to purchase them. Rental costs start at just £6 a day.
Brand director Natasha Hackett said:
“It is clear fashion rental is the way forward, and we’re proud to have expanded our offerings to create a new way for customers to discover Karen Millen’s most iconic designs.”
My Wardrobe HQ CEO Sacha Newall said that every year, more than 300,000 tonnes of clothing go to landfill. She praised Karen Millen’s commitment to the circular economy and encouraging shoppers to consider how they consume fashion.
