Glass panels that are not stored safely are an injury risk, and care always needs to be taken when handling. The panels should be stored using an A-frame storage trolley or a static A-frame.
Never stack horizontally!
The first rule for storing glass panels is to never store them horizontally or on top of each other. They should be stored on their edge at an angle between 3 to 6 degrees. Steely Products’ A-frame storage trolleys make sure that the panels are stored at the correct angle.
The environment
Glass panels need to be stored in a clean dry and well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight or heat sources. Alkaline solutions such as cement and lime should never be in contact with the glass.
Glass is not subject to corrosion, so if it does become damp it is no problem if allowed to dry. However, when storing double glazed panels, prolonged contact with water can cause water to penetrate the unit and cause damage.
Always use the right A-frame size

Avoid scratches
Glass is easily scratched, so precautions are needed to prevent this. Our A-frames have wood slats or are carpeted to prevent damage.
Train staff in how to safely store glass panels
Glass panels can cause serious injury if they fall on workers or shatter. All workers need training in how to safely move and store glass panels. They must wear appropriate PPE (personal protection equipment) such as gloves and hard hats.
Moving glass panels
When moving glass panels to the A-frame, be aware of the risks. First, plan the route carefully, making sure that there are no obstacles or debris in the way. If the glass needs to turn corners, ensure there is plenty of room to do this before moving the glass.
If manually handling glass, carry it upright. Heavy glass requires a suction cup for the lower hand.
Carriers should wear gloves with rubber-coated palms. If moving a glass panel from an A-frame trolley, have a worker secure the other panels stored on the A-frame.
