Joules headquarters wins prize for top corporate workplace

The Joules headquarters in Market Harborough has been named the Best Corporate Workplace by the British Council for Offices.

Known as “the Barn”, the headquarters were opened in 2021 and merged five separate offices that were previously spread over various locations into a single space.

The Barn features a series of connected barn structures around a central atrium. The office and studios in the building are open plan, airy and light. More than 400 people work in the Barn, which is estimated to have cost £20 million to construct. Staff wellbeing is important. There are exercise areas, healthy food facilities and sit or stand workstations.

The judges panel that gave the award was impressed with how the designers understood and embraced the Joules brand and its culture. In a statement, Joules said:

“The space has been specifically designed to enable the company’s move into a more flexible way of working that suits the entire workforce.”

Joules was founded in 1989 by Tom Joules and has been based in Market Harborough ever since. It sells clothing at over 100 British stores and has an e-commerce website that also features furniture and other household items. Joules also has a growing presence in the US, Canada, Europe, Australia, East Asia and South America.

The main distribution centre of Joules is in Corby in North Northamptonshire, and it features a modern warehouse equipped with thousands of garments stored on heavy duty garment rails ready for dispatch to Joules’ stores and online and overseas customers.
